Commonly Asked Questions

What is evidence based therapy?

Psychotherapies that are supported by rigorous peer-reviewed research and are considered "best practices” for specific mental health issues (e.g. anxiety, depression). Research shows that clients often make significant progress within the first 6 sessions of evidence-based therapy compared to “talk therapy.”

How is evidence-based therapy different from "talk therapy"?

Evidence-based therapy is very different from supportive therapy in that it involves structure, psycho-education, skill-building and assessment of progress over time. Evidence-based therapy is time-limited and gives you a high “dosage” of effective techniques in a shorter period of time. The goal is to help you make sustainable change and “outgrow” weekly therapy!

How do I assess the qualifications of a therapist?

Many therapists can help you! We encourage you to advocate for yourself and what you need in finding a strong therapist match. Ask your therapist about their training experiences and approach to ensure you are getting the best.

PhD-level therapists who attended university-based doctoral programs receive rigorous training in evidence-based therapy, research, training and teaching.

What is telehealth therapy?

Telehealth therapy is conducted over a HIPPA-compliant video system called Zoom. You and your therapist can see and hear eachother as if you were sitting in person, except you have the luxury of being in your own home or away. No technical skills are needed and we will provide all of the support you need to get started.

Do I need to prepare anything for the first therapy session?

It can be helpful to think a little about what you want to get out of therapy. However, many people enter therapy without a clear sense of their goals - this is normal and expected! Your therapist knows all of the questions to ask you.

Do you take insurance?

We do not take insurance. Currently, we provide limited sliding scale rates. We also provide super bills that clients can submit to insurance for reimbursement. Many clients have success getting 50-70% reimbursed.
